In the first month of the fiscal year 2081/82, Nepal's trade report indicates concerning trends in the nation's economic landscape. The trade deficit, the difference between imports and exports, has risen by approximately 2.55 percent.
Import Trends:
During this period, imports exhibited a notable increase of about 11.42 percent, amounting to approximately Rs. 1.43 Kharba. In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, imports totaled Rs. 1.28 Kharba.
The most significant imported goods included mineral fuels and mineral oils, animal or vegetable fats and oils, iron and steel, and vehicles. This escalation in these imports underscores shifts in consumer demand and industrial requirements within the country.
Export Trends:
Conversely, the country's exports stood at Rs. 23.93 Arba in the month of Shrawan, primarily driven by sectors such as animal or vegetable fats and oils, man-made staple fibres, carpets & other textile floor coverings and coffee, tea & spices, constituting the highest export volumes.
However, exports have experienced an increase of about 95.75 percent compared to the previous year when Nepal recorded exports worth Rs. 12.22 Arba.
