Charting Infrastructure Growth: AIIB's Consultation with Nepal Rastra Bank

A meeting took place between a team from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) visiting Nepal and senior officials from Nepal Rastra Bank.

Led by AIIB Board Member R.M.P. Rathnayake, the team met with Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari, Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra, and other officials.

Governor Adhikari provided insights into Nepal's current economic situation, including GDP, inflation, and foreign exchange reserves, highlighting the satisfactory regulatory environment for Nepal's financial sector.

He emphasized the need for increased investment in infrastructure sectors like hydropower and transmission lines, citing insufficient internal resources.

Discussions during the meeting also covered policy arrangements for foreign investment, potential infrastructure areas for AIIB investment, loan approval processes, and interest rates.

The AIIB team expressed interest in Nepal's climate change policy efforts and engaged in bilateral discussions on development priorities and investment opportunities.

Present at the meeting were executive directors from Nepal Rastra Bank, including Dr. Nephil Matangi Maskay, Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, and Guru Prasad Poudel.

Established in 2016, AIIB aims to promote investment in sustainable and green infrastructure development in Asia and other member countries, with its headquarters in Beijing, China.
