Dashain festival is celebrated with the loved ones by eating a variety of foods, wearing new clothes, and putting tika along with new notes as a blessing from the elderly.

The blessing is given to bestow long life as the son of Drone by pronouncing the Sanskrit word "Aayu: Drone sutye", which means a lifetime of Aswathama whose existence is believed to remain up to the existence of Sun and Moon. But we neglect the lifetime of our paper notes by dirtying it with colors while blessing our loved one with the long life.

The note is the representative of our culture, our nation. Keeping this in mind Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) started policy to issue new note. Those notes which are seen not usable are destroyed instead of which new notes are printed. The printing is done abroad, so that leads to outflow of our national currency and causes a direct effect on our revenue.

This year 40 crore and 23 crore notes of Rs.50 and Rs.100 were printed. Including the manufacturing or issuing costs, wear and tear costs, cost of transportation, destruction costs charged on it increases the cost of printing.

As we use our new clothes safely in Dashain, we must use our new note safely too by protecting it from different colors, keeping it in our purse without folding or squeezing.

Generally, the life of new note is 4-5 years but note printed in Dashain gets old and unusable within a year. So, to save our revenue we can contribute in its lifetime by handling it with proper care or by using different online or digital facilities of money transfers like e-Sewa, Khalti, IME pay etc in our celebrations too.

So, every citizen should be responsible for their right and responsibility toward the nation and should contribute in the best possible manner.
