NRB Instructs Banks to Open Their Branches for revenue collection/clearing; Will they provide other services?

Nepal Rastra Branch has instructed the A, B, and C class banks and financial institutions to remain open today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow (Bhadra 23-25).

NRB issued this instruction in order to collect revenue and for clearing purposes. The government of Nepal has instructed taxpayers to pay the tax by Bhadra 25. This is why NRB had to instruct banks to remain open until that date.

If only limited branches are opened, there is a risk of overcrowding of taxpayers in these branches. This is why NRB had to instruct BFIs to open all the branches altogether. During the lockdown, banks have been operating a limited number of branches for essential banking services.

However, note that the branches that are open for revenue collection and clearing purposes may not provide other services to their clients.

Sharesansar called a few branches of various banks to know on the matter. A few of the branches have got the notice but aren't open because they haven't received any formal notice from their authority (the guards picked up our call). Meanwhile, some are open only for revenue collection and clearing purposes.

Nevertheless, the limited branches of banks that were scheduled to open today will provide all the services to their customers.

Nepal Clearing House will also be in operation for the aforementioned three days.
