NEPSE down to a 11-month low of 1,296.23 points; loses Rs 6 kharba since its all-time high of 1881

Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) Index has continued to slide down on the last trading day of the week as well. Today, it has shrunk by 26.75 points (2.02%) to close at 1,296.23 points.The market opened at 1322.98 today, and continued to fall down to 1305. It rebounded to 1318 in the second trading hour, but huge influx of sellers dragged it further down. The turnover of the day stood at Rs 57.60 crore.
This is an 11-month lowest point. The last time it was at this level was on March 2, 2016 when it had closed at 1295.78 points. It has lost 31.1% since its all-time high of 1881.45 on July 27, 2016. The market capitalization on that day was above Rs 20.7 kharba and it has now shrunk below Rs 14.58 kharba.
Just one day after NIC Asia Bank announced auction of mutual funds under its holding, huge transactions were seen for three mutual funds: Siddhartha Equity Oriented Scheme (SEOS), NIBL Sambriddhi Fund -1 (NIBSF1) and NMB Sulav Investment Fund -1 (NMBSF1). Most of the mutual fund trades today were matching transactions—meaning they were bought and sold through the same brokers. Online Securities Pvt Ltd (Broker #49) has transacted stocks worth Rs 24.96 crore, accounting for 43.34% of the total turnover amount today. It has matched Rs 11.16 crore worth of shares today.

56.34 lakh units of SEOS, 55.13 units of NIBSF1 and 33.76 units of NMBSF1 were traded the most today, contributing to more than 25% of the total transaction amount today. Apart from mutual funds, Prabhu Bank (PRVU), Sanima Bank (SANIMA) and Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Co. Ltd. (HIDCL) were traded the most today. Altogether, 1.54 crore unit shares were traded through 5,571 transactions today. In this bearish trend, Mero Microfinance (MERO), Rastriya Beema Company (RBCL) and Synergy Finance (SYFL) gained the most while Everest Insurance, United Insurance and Prudential Insurance lost the most. Insurance sector lost the most today with top 5 losers all being insurance companies.
Today, the sensitive index dropped by 5.73 points, whereas float index shrunk by 2.09 points. No sub-index could end up in green today. Insurance sub-index shrunk by 224.18 points (4%) the most today.
