Government Considers Two-Day Weekends (Sat-Sun) From Jestha

The government of Nepal has decided to grant 2 days leave – Saturday and Sunday from coming Jestha. This measure is taken in order to reduce fuel consumption, as the country battles a foreign exchange crisis and the price of petroleum products sky-rockets. However, on other days, the offices will be open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, extending the working hours by one hour per day.
The government had earlier decided to cut fuel supply to its subordinate offices by 20 percent. Also, to deal with the forex crisis, the government has also tightened imports of expensive cars, motorcycles above 250 cc, and other luxurious goods to maintain its falling reserves.
Gyanendra Karki, the spokesperson of the government and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, has further clarified that the 2-day holiday scheme is a temporary trial and shall be continued only if it brings positive changes.
