Energy Minister Inspects Nepal’s Emerging Hydropower Tourism Project in Kaligandaki
Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha conducted an on-site inspection of the under-construction Maulakalika Hydropower Company Ltd project, which is being developed under Nepal’s innovative hydro-tourism concept. The 477 MW hydropower project, located on the Kaligandaki River between Tanahun and Nawalpur, has already achieved over 30% physical progress within six months of construction.

The project aims to be completed within the next two years and will connect electricity production to the national grid via the New Bharatpur Substation. Alongside power generation, the project includes a 15-kilometer reservoir, planned boating services, waterfall viewing areas, and a five-star hotel, positioning it as one of Nepal’s future flagship hydro-tourism destinations.
