Committee formed for recommendation of potential candidates for the post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank; to function under chairmanship of Dr. Khatiwada

The meeting of cabinet ministers held on Sunday has formed a committee responsible for recommending potential candidates for the post of Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. The committee will function under the chairmanship of Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwad with former Secretary Mr. Kishnahari Baskota and former Governor Mr. Vijaynath Bhattrai as the members of the committee.

The former Governor, Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal’s 5 year tenure came to end on Chaitra 5, 2076 after which senior deputy governor Mr, Chintamani Shivakoti was appointed as the acting governor. Previously, the government has been appointing the new governor before the tenure end of the existing governor; however, it was not the case this time.

The committee is expected to recommend three potential candidates for the post of governor to the government after which the government will select the new governor. Among the three candidates, two are expected to be from well established in the finance, monetary, banking, commercial management and commercial law background. At least one recommended candidate should be the deputy governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank.
