Commercial Banks' Q1 Analysis: 7 banks managed to increase their profits by more than 100%

The total profit of the commercial banking industry as of Q1 2072 is Rs.6.68 arba. This is a change of 33.81% compared to figures same quarter last year.The average net profit of the commercial banks stands at Rs.22.27 crores. 11 banks earned profit above the average figure while 19 earned less than average profits. The average change in net profit per bank is Rs.5.63 crores.
Three of the top 5 companies actually decreased their net profit compared to the same period last year.
Nabil Bank Ltd. earned the highest net profit in Q1 of Rs.66.38 crores. Last year in the same quarter, Rastriya Banijya Bank had managed to earn the highest net profit of Rs.67.38 crores.
25 banks increased their net profits compared to last year while 5 decreased their net profits. These five banks are Nepal Investment Bank Ltd., Rastriya Banijy Bank Ltd., Everest Bank Ltd., Machhapuchchhre Bank Ltd. and Standard Chartered Bank Ltd.
Prabhu Bank Ltd. managed the highest increase in net profit in amount. Its net profit changed by Rs.37.85 crores. Interestingly, Grand Bank Ltd., which is in merger with Prabhu, managed the second highest increase in profit in amount. Its profits increased by Rs.29.73 Crores.
On the basis of percentage change, 7 banks managed to increase their profits by more than 100%. The highest percentage change was recorded by Civil Bank Ltd. which managed to increase its profits by 712.01%. Civil was followed by Janata and Prabhu which increased their profits by 545.58% and 324.00% respectively.
Rastriya Banijya Bank saw the largest decrease in net profit in amount while Nepal Investment Bank decreased its profits by the largest percentage.
47% of the commercial banking sector's profits has been earned by the top 5 companies. 6 banks earned profits of less than Rs.10 crores, 12 banks earned net profit between Rs.10 crores and Rs.20 crores, 8 banks earned net profit between Rs.20 crores and Rs.40 crores and 4 banks earned profits above Rs.40 crores.
