The Bharatpur-based Distribution Centre of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has blacklisted 277 power consumers for failing to pay their electricity tariffs on time.

According to Information Officer Nand Ram Bista, the consumers were blacklisted as they had not cleared dues amounting to Rs 10.4 million.

He said the action was taken after repeated reminders were ignored and outstanding payments remained unsettled. The cases of non-payment pertain to the past year. In addition, 1,826 households had their electricity supply disconnected for failing to pay tariffs for six consecutive months.

The Bharatpur Distribution Centre currently serves a total of 74,876 electricity consumers. The office stated that it has been regularly issuing prior notices and enforcing power cuts in cases of serious non-compliance.

“Employees at the Centre are actively working to ensure accountability among consumers and are taking necessary action accordingly,” Bista added.
