A special resolution on the Lipulekh dispute has been endorsed during the second statute convention of the CPN-UML, with the party calling for firm diplomatic action to protect Nepal’s territorial claims.
The proposal voiced clear opposition to the India–China agreement designating Lipulekh Pass as a trade corridor, urging both countries to withdraw from the deal. It also pressed the government to pursue high-level diplomacy to secure Nepal’s rights over the land east of the Kali River.
Delegates emphasized the importance of investing in infrastructure—such as roads, transport, health services, education, food security, and employment opportunities—to bring residents of Chhangru and Tinkar, settlements near the disputed area, closer into the national fold.
The convention commended Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli for taking a strong stance on the issue during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit and in his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. By presenting evidence, maps, and historical facts, Oli was said to have reaffirmed Nepal’s sovereign position on the global stage while safeguarding the nation’s dignity.
The gathering further noted that Oli’s engagements with Russian and other international leaders, along with commitments secured in those meetings, had strengthened Nepal’s standing in the international community.
The convention concluded on Sunday by approving this resolution along with a 29-point contemporary agenda.
