Stock Market correlate to floods in Terai; Index slides by 11.40 points with minimal turnover of 80.18 crore

On the first trading day of the week, the benchmark index at Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (NEPSE) has declined by 11.40 points or 0.69% to close at 1642.13 points. Nepse Index today, opened at 1653.92 and the local bourse increased slightly in the first trading hour of the day after that it was seen in the downward trend. The total turnover for the day was above Rs 80.18 crore while more than 19.60 lakhs unit of share were traded with 7,581 transactions. index Terai region which is the focal point for the economic trade route for valley has been flooded, with that the region incurs the potentially grave economic loss which is evident to ripple effect on the market in days to come. The aftermath for this region is that most people loan paying capacity will be diminished due to the loss of assets and hence, the claim upon insurance will also increase. National Hydropower Company Limited (NHPC) topped the list of companies in terms of turnover (Rs 6.38 crore) and most traded shares (3.98 lakh units). Mahalaxmi Bikas Bank Limited (MLBL) was the top gainer for the trading day with 9.56 percent change in LTP at Rs 240. On contrary, Lalitpur Finance Limited was the biggest loser. Sensitive and float index slightly went down by 0.70 percent and 2.44 points respectively. Except Finance and Manufacturing & Productions sub-group, all other groups landed in red. Insurance sub-group slumps by 104.37 points.
