The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) and the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) have held discussions on implementing the recommendations of the government-appointed NEPSE Restructuring Recommendation Committee, 2082, and advancing reforms in the secondary market.
The discussion was held at the SEBON office on Ashwin 29, 2083, with the participation of SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta, senior board officials, and members and senior management of the NEPSE Board of Directors.
The discussions focused on reforms required in NEPSE’s institutional structure, ownership, corporate governance, technology, human resources, operational procedures and trading systems.
SEBON Chairman Bhatta said adequate capital, skilled human resources and modern information technology infrastructure are essential for a modern stock exchange. He described the meeting as the first discussion organized as part of the stock exchange reform process.
According to Bhatta, SEBON plans to move forward with reforms in more than 30 areas related to the restructuring of NEPSE’s capital and ownership, as well as the operation and management of the secondary market and diversification of market instruments and services.

NEPSE Board Chairman and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Finance Narayan Prasad Rijal described the discussion between SEBON and the NEPSE Board as a new beginning for securities market reform.
Rijal said NEPSE is currently focusing on recommendations in the NEPSE restructuring report that can be implemented immediately. He also expressed commitment to improving NEPSE’s technology and systems, institutional governance, investment instruments, and services.
During the meeting, SEBON Deputy Executive Director Ambika Ojha Gupta presented the regulatory measures prepared by the board concerning the implementation of recommendations from the NEPSE restructuring report, more effective operation and management of the secondary market, and diversification of securities market instruments and services.
SEBON said the restructuring of NEPSE and improvements in secondary market operations are expected to expand investment options, enhance the reliability of trading systems and strengthen transparency in Nepal’s capital market.
