Rupee gains value, gold price down
KATHMANDU, June 26
Nepali rupee gained 9 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, gained value against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, came down by Rs 685 per 10 grams this week.
CURRENCY
Rupee gained 9 paisa to close at 102.02 against US dollar on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory bank, had opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 102.11.
Rupee gained 12 paisa on Monday to close at 101.99 against US dollar. The local currency gained against 7 paisa against US dollar on Tuesday to settle at 101.92. Rupee, however, lost 12 paisa against the greenback on Wednesday to settle at 102.04. The local currency shed another 4 paisa on Thursday to settle at 102.08 against dollar. Rupee, however, gained 6 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week's trading at 102.02.
Meanwhile, rupee gained Rs 1.7 against euro and Rs 1.92 against Pound Sterling this week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 113.85 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was valued Rs 160.03.
BULLION
Gold price went down by Rs 685 per 10 grams to Rs 44,070 this week. Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 44,755 per 10 grams.
Though gold price remained unchanged on Monday, it came down by Rs 345 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 44,410. Gold price fell further by Rs 255 per 10 grams to close the day's trading Rs 44,155 on Wednesday. Though the yellow metal remained unchanged on Thursday, its price fell by Rs 85 per 10 grams close the week's trading at Rs 44,070 on Friday.
Meanwhile, price of silver fell by Rs 8.5 per 10 grams over the week. Silver was traded at Rs 591.5 per 10 grams on Friday.
