RSP Secures Dominant Victory in Lumbini Province, Wins 21 of 26 Constituencies

Candidates from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) have emerged victorious in 21 out of the 26 electoral constituencies across the 12 districts of Lumbini Province, marking a significant political breakthrough for the party in the region. According to the Election Commission, the remaining constituencies were divided among other major parties, with the Nepali Congress and the Nepali Communist Party winning two seats each, while the CPN (UML) secured victory in one constituency.

The RSP recorded a sweeping victory in Rupandehi district by winning all five constituencies. Sunil Lamsal was elected from Rupandehi-1, Sulabh Kharel from Rupandehi-2, Dr. Lekhjang Thapa from Rupandehi-3, Kanhaiya Baniya from Rupandehi-4, and Taufik Ahmed Khan from Rupandehi-5.

In West Nawalparasi, RSP candidates also secured both constituencies. Bikram Khanal won from West Nawalparasi-1, while Narendra Kumar Gupta was elected from West Nawalparasi-2, according to the Election Commission.

Similarly, the party achieved notable victories in Kapilvastu district. Mohan Lal Acharya from the RSP won the election from Kapilvastu-1, while Bikram Singh Thapa secured the seat in Kapilvastu-2. However, the Nepali Congress managed to win one constituency in the district, with Abhishek Pratap Shah emerging victorious from Kapilvastu-3.

In Dang district, the RSP continued its strong performance as its candidates Dev Raj Pathak, Bipin Kumar Acharya, and Kamal Subedi won from Dang constituencies 1, 2 and 3 respectively.

The party also secured both seats in Gulmi district. Sagar Dhakal was elected from Gulmi-1, while Govinda Panthi won from Gulmi-2.

In Bardiya district, RSP candidates also achieved victory in both constituencies. Thakur Singh Tharu was elected from Bardiya-1, while Shridhar Pokhrel won from Bardiya-2, according to the Election Commission.

In Banke district, RSP candidates Suresh Kumar Chaudhary and Khagendra Sunar won from Banke-1 and Banke-3 respectively. Meanwhile, Mohammad Ishtiyak Rai of the CPN (UML) secured victory from Banke-2.

Leaders from other major parties also managed to win in a few constituencies. Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ won the election from Rukum West, while Barshaman Pun was re-elected from Rolpa.

In Pyuthan district, RSP candidate Sushant Baidik emerged victorious in the election.

Similarly, in Palpa district, Nepali Congress candidate Sandeep Rana won the first-past-the-post election from Palpa-1, while RSP candidate Madhav Bahadur Thapa was elected from Palpa-2, according to the Office of the Chief Returning Officer in Palpa.

In Arghakhanchi district, Hari Prasad Bhusal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party was elected, further strengthening the party’s strong presence across the province.

The election results highlight the growing influence of the Rastriya Swatantra Party in Lumbini Province, where the party secured a clear majority of the constituencies, leaving limited seats for other political parties.
