The government has announced its plan to increase public ownership in Nepal Telecom by reducing its own stake.

Presenting the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel stated that the government will lower its current shareholding—currently exceeding 90%—to expand public participation. As per the new policy, the shareholding of the general public in Nepal Telecom will be raised to 30%, aligning with efforts to promote public ownership in state-owned enterprises.
