Property Probe Commission Formed to Promote Good Governance, Curb Corruption: Finance Minister Wagle
Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has stated that the newly established Property Probe Commission has been formed in response to growing public demand for stronger measures to curb corruption and promote good governance.
Responding to lawmakers’ queries during deliberations on the Appropriation Bill in the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, Minister Wagle said the initiative aligns with the commitment made by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) during the elections. He emphasized that the commission will focus on investigating the assets of individuals holding political and public offices.
The Finance Minister clarified that the commission is not intended to be a permanent body. Instead, it will conduct targeted investigations into the property of concerned officials and recommend necessary action to the government if any irregularities are found.
He further assured that the commission will not interfere with the constitutional mandate of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which continues to function as the country’s primary anti-corruption body.
Minister Wagle expressed confidence that the establishment of the Property Probe Commission would strengthen accountability in public office, reinforcing the principle that public officials are subject to scrutiny regarding their income and assets. He added that the move is expected to discourage the misuse of authority for personal gain and promote transparency in governance.
