PM Balendra Shah Hails Historic Everest Records of Kami Rita and Lhakpa Sherpa
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has extended congratulations and expressed deep respect to renowned climbers Kami Rita Sherpa and Lhakpa Sherpa for their remarkable achievements on the world’s highest peak, Sagarmatha (Mount Everest).
In a message shared on his social media platform ‘X’, PM Shah expressed confidence that such extraordinary accomplishments would further boost Nepal’s mountain tourism sector, making it more credible, prestigious, and attractive on the global stage. He also noted that these achievements would strengthen Nepal’s international identity.
Kami Rita Sherpa successfully scaled Sagarmatha for a record 32nd time at 10:12 am yesterday, once again breaking his own world record for the highest number of ascents of the world’s tallest mountain. Similarly, Lhakpa Sherpa, widely known as the “Mountain Queen,” reached the summit for the 11th time at 9:30 am yesterday, setting a new record for the most Everest ascents by a female climber.
Marking the historic feat, the Prime Minister stated that Sagarmatha is not just a geographical landmark but a powerful symbol of Nepal’s dignity, courage, endurance, and Himalayan civilization. He praised the climbers for scripting yet another chapter in history through their achievement.
He further remarked that such success is only possible through courage, discipline, and dedication. Extending best wishes, he said he felt honored to share the proud moment with all Nepalis.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the invaluable contribution of the Sherpa community to Nepal’s mountaineering legacy, describing them as the “unsung heroes of the Himalayas” who accept risks as responsibility and safely guide climbers to the summit.
“Without their courage, knowledge, and hard work, the glory of the Himalayas would remain incomplete,” he said, extending heartfelt congratulations to Kami Rita Sherpa, Lhakpa Sherpa, the Sherpa community, and all those involved in mountaineering.
