KATHMANDU, March 13:

Nepal Telecom (NT) is introducing convergent real time billing system in May. Once the system goes live, NT customers will be able to pay bill of different services through a single bill.

Not just that, customers can use a single recharge card to make payment of various services of the state-owned telecom operator.

At present, NT customers have to make payment at different counters for different services. Also, it has introduced different recharge cards for different services.

NT officials said first phase of the system will go live in May. In the first phase, customers of GSM pre-paid and IP CDMA services will be able to enjoy the service.

“It will take nearly three years for the entire system to go live. However, users of GSM pre-paid users and IP CDMA users will be able to enjoy convergent real time billing system from May onwards,” Guna Keshari Pradhan, spokesperson for NT, said.

The service will not only simplify the process of making payment for customers but will also enable NT to launch different schemes targeting particular population.

As a unified system, it also allows the operator to expand market share through personalized marketing activities and to increase revenue eventually. “It will also help deliver high level of Quality of Experience through real time service,” Pradhan said, adding that the system will also bring down operating cost of NT as it run the system through a single with less number of employees.

In the second phase, billing system of post-paid GSM will be migrated followed by PSTN (fixed line) and ADSL Internet. Although network migration is likely to happen within 2013, NT will be able to start full-fledged operation of the system after around three years.

NT has already migrated the billing system of 2 million IP CDMA lines under the new system. The process to migrate the billing of 4.8 million GSM lines is currently underway.

“Once the system is launched, we will be able to get detailed summary reports, call analysis, and examine customer behavior, among others,” added Pradhan.

NT had signed an agreement with Singapore-based Asia Info Linkage Technologies for the implementation of the system at the cost of around Rs 2 billion.
