Nepse Wrap up (Review period 10th February, 2012 to 14th February, 2013)

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) movement this week justifies the significance of favorable political environment for the growth of financial markets of the country. After the dissolve of the Constituent Assembly, the investors faced uncertainty to invest in the market because of the political vacuum. But the news of political parties in the process of building a consensus to provide the breakthrough, kept and boosted the confidence of investor now and then.
This week also same kind of impact was seen. Following the positive reaction from the big parties to forming a national government under the leadership of the Chief Justice as proposed by UCPN-M , the market on Monday surge by 18.15 points. However, on the very next day the news of disagreement and the inability of political parties to come under one term for forming the consensus government resulted in the downfall of Nepse by 5.91 points.
Again on the subsequent day, the news of President planning to take decisive decision to break the stalemate prevailing in the country and prepare ways for fresh election boosted the local bourse by 3.19 points. In overall scenario, with the hope of investors running high for obtaining a solution to the existing deadlock in the country within a few days of time, the benchmark Nepse index was able to rocket up by 17.58 or 3.43% higher than previous week’s closing to close at 530.2 levels.
The turnover in the market also incremented by huge figure this week . As compared to a previous week’s daily average of Rs 88.97 million, this week’s average stood at Rs 138.18 million which is higher by Rs 48.21 million or 55%. In overall, 47,420,423 units of share were traded via 5,190 transactions worth Rs 552,716,707. The market capitalization at the end of the review period stood at Rs 510,706.47 million which is higher by Rs 15,971.68 million.
Among the sub-indices, only Others sectors suffered a loss of 1.18 points following the drop in Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) of Rs 4. Whereas, Manufacturing gained the highest totaling 33.73 points; the growth in the sector was mainly complemented by the rise in Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL) of Rs 650, with this increment the scrip has once again crossed the ten thousand mark to close at Rs 10,400 per unit.
Likewise, Hydro sector surged by 32.47 points after the soar in the price of Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) and Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) by Rs 57 and Rs 7. Whereas, the announcement of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), which closed at Rs 2030, to distribute 70% bonus share and 56.3158% cash dividend to its shareholders from the profit of fiscal year 2068/69, boosted the company’s share price by Rs 365 or 21.92% making the scrip highest gainer of the week. This news of the company also helped to uplift the Insurance sector by 30.24 points.
Similarly, Banking sector also inclined by 25.04 points following the increment in the levels of Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), NABIL Bank Limited Promotor Share (NABILPO), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB), Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL) by Rs 143, Rs 110, Rs72, Rs 43, Rs 42 respectively. Likewise, Finance , Development and Hotels also increased by 2.23, 1.80 and 19.40 points respectively. Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index increased by 5.10 or 3.81% to settle at 138.90 levels while Float index also incline by 1.23 or 3.49% points to settle at 36.48 levels.
Total scrips traded for the week were 116 with 67 gainers, 17 intact and 32 Losers; the highest loser of the week was Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN), closed at Rs 937, with Rs 197 or 17.37% . In case of highest share traded and turnover, NIDC Capital Markets Ltd. Promoter Share. (NIDCPO), closed at Rs 151, topped with 468,545 units worth Rs 70,750,295 via 1 transaction which was bought by Broker no 41 (Linch Stock Market Limited) and sold by Broker no 25 (Sweta Securities Pvt. Limited) .
Among the ordinary share, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 294, topped with 337 transactions of 231,690 units worth Rs 65,315,809; in which Broker No 45 (Imperial Securities Co .Pvt. Limited) was the active broker with 34.80% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying 82,200 units worth Rs 22,761,755 via 25 transactions which includes one matching transactions of 300 units worth Rs 85,500.
