NEPSE to Remain Closed on Thursday, Government Declares Public Holiday on Gyalpo Lhosar

The government has decided to grant a public holiday across the country on Thursday, Falgun 19. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to grant a nationwide public holiday on the occasion of Gyalpo Lhosar, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Gyalpo Lhosar is a new year festival of the Sherpa people of Nepal and the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India. While Gyalpo Lhosar is celebrated for 2 weeks by the related communities, the government has declared a day's public holiday for all.

As such, NEPSE will also remain closed on Thursday. With this, the trading has concluded for the week as NEPSE remains closed on Fridays and Saturdays. There were only three trading days this week: NEPSE remained closed on Tuesday as well on the occasion of Mahashivaratri.

The index lost 7.74 points on Sunday, closed 43.12 points below on Monday, and shed 63.54 points today as well. All sector indices have witnessed massive drawdown today.
