NEPSE REACTS TO THE POLITICAL NEWS

The news of the political parties nearing towards a consensus to accept an independent person to lead the government into an election boosted the investors’ confidence in the market today. Though the parties have not narrowed the independent person to one individual, the positive outlook of political parties towards this proposal, proposed by unified CPN-Maoist, have fuelled hopes among investors for more stable environment to invest in the financial markets of Nepal.

With the high hopes of investors, the market index started its trade from 12 points or 2% higher than prior day’s closing level. Following the opening above 525 levels, the local bourse came to the lowest around 523 levels then again surge in the last hour of trade to close at 532.92 levels, overall adding 18.15 points or 3.26% than the prior day’s level. The double digit growth in the Nepse index was last seen in 26th December of 10.84 points whereas the volatility of local bourse above 3% was last seen in 6th March, 2012 of 17.43 or 4.67% points.

The turnover in the market also surged by a huge figure today as it stood at Rs 238,072,225 which is higher by a mind blowing amount of Rs 169,049,914 or 244.92%. Last time, Nepse crossed the turnover above Rs 200 million was back in 26th April, 2012 of Rs 270 million. Likewise near to one million units of share were traded i.e. 943,645 units via 1554 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the day stood at Rs 513,323.43 million.

The sub-indices also had the better run today as all settled in the green pasture. Among sub-indices, Hydro sector climbed up by a hefty 31.48 points following the jump in the price of Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) and Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 10 and Rs 49 respectively. Likewise, announcement of Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), to distribute 70% bonus share and 56.3158% cash dividend to its shareholders from the profit of fiscal year 2068/69, boosted the company’s share price by Rs 169 or 9.95% making the scrip highest gainer of the day. It also further helped to uplift the Insurance sector up by 16.39 points.

Similarly, with the favorable political news complemented by a healthy second quarter report of most of the commercial banks, the Banking sector rocketed up by 23.27 points. Under banking today, only Nepal bank Ltd. (NBL) tumble by Rs 20 whereas, Nabil Bank Ltd. (NABIL), Nepal SBI Bank Limited (SBI), Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. (SCB), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL) and Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL) incremented by Rs 75, Rs 59, Rs 55, Rs 54 and Rs 44 respectively. As for Development and Finance, both inclined by 1.34 and 1.42 points respectively.

While, advance  in the value of Uniliver Nepal Ltd. (UNL) by Rs 400 and Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 17 pushed the Manufacturing and Other sector further north by 20.76 and 15.27 points respectively. Similarly, ascend in the level of Oriental Hotel Ltd. (OHL) enhanced the Hotels sector by 0.76 points.

Overall there were only 79 scrips traded among which 59 scrips increased, 10 remain intact and 10 scrips decreased. The highest loser for the day was, Subhechha Bikas Bank Limited (SUBBL), closed at Rs 131, with Rs 14 or 9.66% loss. In case of highest share traded and turnover, NIDC Capital Markets Ltd. Promoter Share. (NIDCPO), closed at Rs 151, topped with 468,545 units worth Rs 70,750,295 via 1 transaction which was bought by Broker no 41 (Linch Stock Market Limited) and sold by Broker no  25 (Sweta Securities Pvt. Limited) .

Among the ordinary shares, the highest share traded and turnover was of Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 290, with 83 transactions totaling 117,063 units worth Rs 32,699,545; in which Broker no 45 (Imperial Securities Co .Pvt. Limited) was the most active Broker with 63.78% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying, 75,500 units worth Rs 20,858,200 via 4 buying transactions.
