Nepal's economy is estimated to have expanded to Rs. 6.17 trillion in the current fiscal year, as per the Economic Survey 2025/26 unveiled on Thursday by Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel.

The survey reports that the nation's per capita income has risen to USD 1,443. In terms of GDP composition, the agriculture sector contributed 25.16 percent, the industrial sector 12.83 percent, while the services sector remained the largest contributor at 62.01 percent.

Despite the economic growth, the government is currently operating under a budget deficit. Minister Paudel revealed that the federal treasury faced a shortfall of Rs. 16.19 billion, primarily due to underperformance in revenue collection. Nonetheless, this marks a notable improvement compared to the deficit of Rs. 70.36 billion recorded during the same period last fiscal year.

By the end of Falgun (mid-March), federal expenditure had increased by 4.7 percent, while revenue saw a stronger rise of 12.6 percent, suggesting a gradual strengthening of public finances.
