Nepal Rastra Bank Urges Banks to Facilitate Financial Services for Natural Disaster-Affected Customers
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed banks and financial institutions to facilitate access to banking services for customers affected by the recent natural disasters in Rasuwa and other districts.
The central bank issued the notice after reports that customers affected by the disasters have lost essential banking documents and instruments, including cheques, bank cards, mobile banking access and other necessary documents.
NRB has requested banks and financial institutions to make necessary arrangements to identify affected customers using the signature specimens, photographs and other customer details already available with the institution.
The measure is intended to help customers continue or resume essential banking transactions even when they are unable to produce their usual identification documents or banking instruments due to the disaster.
The central bank has emphasized the need to provide necessary assistance and facilitation to disaster-affected customers under the difficult circumstances.
The directive aims to ensure that people affected by the recent floods, landslides, and other natural disasters are not deprived of essential financial services simply because their banking documents or access instruments were lost or damaged.
NRB has called on concerned banks and financial institutions to adopt necessary arrangements to ensure continued access to banking and financial services for affected customers during the crisis.
