Neglected Road in Baglung Strains Local Commuters Despite National Projects

A track established in 2064 BS aimed to bridge southern Baglung with the primary urban hub. However, after 16 years, the road linking Bareng Rural Municipality to Shantipur of Gulmi remains neglected, presenting challenges for thousands of local residents. Potholes, narrow passages, and alternating muddy or dusty conditions along the 13-kilometer route have made travel precarious, impacting the community's daily lives.

Despite the presence of notable national projects like the Mid-Hill Highway and the Kaligandaki Corridor, which boast national pride, none have directly addressed the connectivity needs of Bareng Rural Municipality. Yet, the rural municipality has taken steps to establish a connection with the Kaligandaki Corridor, considering the road a vital south Baglung trade route linking districts.

The absence of road improvements has rendered Baglung Bazaar inaccessible for Bareng locals, who often resort to commuting to Butwal for various purposes. Expressing discontent, locals criticize the state's apathy toward the roads, which endure heavy commuter traffic daily. While the rural municipality has widened a section of the road, the lack of budget for blacktopping poses a significant obstacle. Chair Krishna Prasad Sharma underscores budget constraints as the primary hindrance to road enhancement, urging increased financial support to address the community's transportation woes.
