National Vigilance Centre Orders Cancellation of Appointments at Gorkhapatra Corporation
The National Vigilance Centre has directed the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology to revoke the appointment of 12 individuals hired on a contract basis at the Gorkhapatra Corporation. Additionally, the Centre has called for action to be taken against five people, including the Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation, Bishnu Prasad Subedi, citing that their appointments were made against the law and established procedures.
Following Subedi's appointment as Executive Chairman, Gorkhapatra Corporation recruited two deputy editors, seven reporters, one consultant, and two senior assistants. The Vigilance Centre has found that the appointment process was not adhered to and lacked the necessary formation and recommendations from the recruitment committee, as required by Regulation 41 of the Gorkhapatra Corporation Staff Service Conditions Regulation 2052. Instead, it was observed that appointments were made based on informal directives.
The Vigilance Centre affirmed that these findings were supported by the answers and documents provided by the Gorkhapatra Institute during their investigation. Consequently, the Centre has instructed the Ministry of Communication to cancel these appointments and take appropriate action against Gorkhapatra Institute's staff administration branch senior assistant Rupchandra Bhatt, senior administration officer Bimala Khadka, branch head Bikrambabu Rai, administration department acting director Omprakash Bhusal, and Executive Chairman of Gorkhapatra Corporation.
