Kathmandu DAO orders cancellation of NAFEA AGM

KATHMANDU, Feb 26:
District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu has directed Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) to postpone its annual general meeting scheduled for Friday. Following complaints by a disgruntled majority faction of the organization which had tendered resignation earlier, the DAO instructed NAFEA to cancel the scheduled AGM and hold the election of the executive committee by March 29.
The disgruntled faction led by NAFEA’s first vice president Kumud Khanal, treasurer Sarada Neupane along with 11 executive members had resigned from the committee expressing dissatisfaction over the President Hansha Raj Wagle’s efforts to enforce controversial bio-metric medical test system in Nepal for the Malaysia-bound workers.
The disgruntled faction had sought the DAO intervention to cancel the AGM called by the Wagle-led committee. Stating that AGM scheduled for Friday was not appropriate at a time when the majority of the executive board members of NAFEA have already resigned and Nepal Foreign Employment Tamu Dhi, Nepal Democratic Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs’ Forum (NDFEEF) and Progressive Foreign Employment Entrepreneurs Forum (PFEEF), among other associate members, have demanded announcement of AGM immediately, the DAO Kathmandu told the umbrella organization of the foreign-bound workers recruiting firms to fix another date of the AGM following consensus between all the associated organizations. The DAO has asked NAFEA to conduct AGM by March 29.
