KAPILVASTU: Potato farmers in the district are likely to suffer a loss of Rs 150 million this year due to the reduced production, according the District Agriculture Office (DADO), Kapilvastu.

The loss in such a scale owes to various diseases like blight.

The excessive rainfall also caused rotting in potatoes leading to reduced production. Potato production was expected to be 36,400 metric tonnes but was down by 45 per cent, shared Ahamad Khan, the Chief of DADO, Kapilvastu.

The crop was cultivated on 2,600 hectares of land, 10 per cent more land than the usual area. The large scale of loss has made farmers here dejected.

Meanwhile, the DADO, Kapilvastu, has also speculated a reduction of 25 per cent in the production of tomato this year. Tomato is cultivated on 325 hectares of land in the district.
