Just 16 Days Left: Nepal Has Spent Only 35% of Its Development Budget
With only 16 days left in the current fiscal year, the Nepali government has spent only 35.12% of its development budget (capital expenditure). Out of the total allocated development budget of 407.88 billion rupees, only 143.23 billion rupees has been used as of June 29 (Asar 15). In contrast, regular government administrative spending and financial management expenses have both crossed 80%.
The government previously estimated that total development spending would reach 61.63% by the end of the year. To meet even this revised target before the official payment cutoff deadline on July 9 (Asar 25), the government will have to rush and spend an average of 13.52 billion rupees every single day. If it wants to meet the original budget goal, that daily spending requirement jumps drastically to over 33 billion rupees.
