Government Sets 2 Percent Profit on Diesel and 2.5 Percent on Petrol, Eliminates LP Gas Profit

The government has made the decision to introduce an automatic price system for petroleum products.

Effective from midnight tonight, the automatic price system will be implemented by the government.

Additionally, the government has declared that it will not retain any profit on liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, while setting a profit margin of 2 percent on diesel and 2.5 percent on petrol. Commerce Secretary Madhukumar Marasini stated that the profit on LP gas cylinders, which was previously Rs 10, has also been reduced to benefit the general consumers.

Prices have decreased in India, and in line with the automatic pricing system, the cost of petrol will be reduced by Rs 6 per liter and diesel by Rs 4 per liter, effective from midnight. Furthermore, the price of LP gas cylinders has been reduced by Rs 10.

In specific areas such as Charali, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Janakpur, Amlekhgunj, Bhalwari, Nepalgunj, and Dhangadhi, petrol will be sold at Rs 161.50 per liter. Presently, petrol is being traded at Rs 167.50 per liter in these regions. Diesel and kerosene prices have been fixed at Rs 143.50 per liter, whereas the current trading price stands at Rs 147.50 per liter.

In Surkhet and Dang regions, petrol will be available at Rs 163 per liter, while diesel and kerosene will be sold at Rs 145 per liter. Currently, petrol is being traded at Rs 169 per liter in these areas, with diesel and kerosene priced at Rs 149 per liter.

For Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal, the price of petrol will be set at Rs 164 per liter. At present, petrol is being sold at Rs 170 per liter in these regions. Diesel and kerosene will be priced at Rs 146 per liter, compared to the current rate of Rs 150 per liter.

The price of an LP gas cylinder will be reduced from Rs 1,800 to Rs 1,790. It should be noted that the price of aviation fuel will be determined by the Board of Directors.

Commerce Secretary Madhukumar Marasini was quoted as stating that the changes were discussed as follows: "We will not keep any profit in LP gas. We have decided to set a 2 percent profit on diesel and 2.5 percent on petrol. Furthermore, we have reduced the profit on LP gas cylinders, keeping in mind the general consumers."
