Immigration unit at Industry Dept
KATHMANDU, JAN 12 -
The Department of Industry has set up an immigration unit on its premises to provide foreign investors one-door service including visa. Industry Minister Mahesh Basnet inaugurated the unit on Sunday. Basnet also granted visas to four Japanese and US investors from the unit following the opening ceremony.
Basnet said that such facilities would encourage foreigners to invest in Nepal. He added that the government had been amending various laws to create a more investor friendly environment in the country. The Industrial Enterprises Act and the Foreign Investment Policy have moved to an advanced stage of introduction.
According to Basnet, various agencies under the Industry Ministry have been going online and brought under the single-door system.
The Department of Industry’s Director General Maheshwor Neupane said the unit had been set up for the convenience of foreign investors. According to him, the department has also initiated the process of digital updating of intellectual property.
