Home Minister Sudan Gurung Made Surprise Visit to National Identity Card Department
Home Minister Sudan Gurung made an unannounced visit to the National Identity Card Department located within Singha Durbar on Monday, in what appears to be another in a series of on ground inspections since assuming office.
Gurung, known for his public facing and un conventional administrative approach, has been among the busiest ministers since taking charge, frequently making field visits to government offices under his ministry's jurisdiction.
During the inspection, the Home Minister is said to have observed service delivery operations firsthand, interacted with staff and service seekers, and assessed the functioning of the department. The visit is consistent with his broader directive to simplify public service delivery and adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, urging ministry officials to ensure smooth service delivery through a single window system.
As Home Minister, Gurung oversees critical institutions and has prioritized governance reform and efficient public service delivery since his appointment on March 27, 2026 under the government of Prime Minister Balen Shah.
The surprise visit signals the minister's intent to hold government departments accountable and ensure that citizens receive timely and hassle-free identity card services.
