Habituated of writing on the banknotes? Stop it or you might be jailed for 3 months

Nepal Rastra Bank has published a notice stating 3 months of imprisonment for the offense of writing on the Nepalese Banknote. In the public notice issued by the central bank, it has been mentioned that the offence of writing in the banknote will be punishable by 3 months imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000.

As per Muluki Aparadh (Samhita) Ain 2075 Para 22, it has been prohibited to burn, decay, tear or write on the banknote. A person involving in the above mentioned forbidden act shall be imprisoned for 3 months.

Similarly, if any person involves in the burning of a banknote or making it unusable without the direction of an authorized officer shall also be punishable by law.

Previously Nepal Rastra Bank had issued a policy regarding the clean note policy and prohibited the banks and financial institutions to staple on the banknotes.
