Govt to decide on issues relating to Guthi Bill soon: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday held consultations with the people’s representatives on the Guthi Bill that was registered in the National Assembly. The Prime Minister had hosted a meeting with members of House of Representatives, National Assembly, Province Assembly, mayors, Deputy-Mayors and ward chairs elected from the Nepal Communist Party at his official residence at Baluwatar.

According to a press statement released by the PM’s personal secretariat, the people’s representatives had voiced their opinions on the Guthi Bill that has been drawing widespread criticism from public, especially from the Newar community.

The Bill stipulates provisions as removing guthiaars (trustees) from the public guthi (trust) and converting private guthis (trusts) into public ones among others.

Nepal Communist Party’s leader Dinanath Sharma, parliamentarian Pampha Bhusal, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Mahesh Basnet, Jivan Ram Shrestha, Anjana Bisankhe and Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya had presented their views during the meeting.

Following the discussion, Prime Minister Oli said that he was holding consultations with the concerned ones and government would make an appropriate decision on the same soon.
