Govt Set To Make Requirement of National Identity Card number for Opening Bank Account, Obtaining Driving License Mandatory

The government is set to make it mandatory to obtain a National Identity Card number for several services and acquiring other official documents. 

President Ram Chandra Paudel in his address earlier of Friday, announced the Policies and Programmes of the government for the upcoming fiscal year 2079/80 at a joint session of both the houses of the federal parliament in New Baneshwor. 

Prez Paudel stated that the government will adopt stringent policies to make it mandatory for nationals to acquire a National Identity Card number as it would be set as a pre-requisite to obtain other official documents and entertain numerous services. 

Therefore, in the unveiled policies and programs, it has been arranged that a national identity card number would be required for opening a bank account, getting a vehicle license, issuing house design approval and getting a permanent account number, among others.

Similarly, President Paudel also announced that it would be made convenient for the public as they would only require to give their biometrics once. 

National Identity Card of Nepal is a federal level Identity card with unique identity number for each person that can be obtained by citizens of Nepal, based on their biometric and demographic data.
