The government has suspended Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

A meeting of the council of ministers on Thursday suspended the governor. The meeting ruled that Governor Adhikari had caused the economy to deteriorate. An investigation committee has also been formed along with the suspension of the Governor.

After the suspension, Deputy Governor Nilam Dhungana has been given the role of office carrier.

Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari was appointed by the KP Sharma Oli government. Many believe that as soon as Sher Bahadur Deuba's government came, disagreement started between Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and Governor Adhikari. Recently, the conflict between Sharma and Governor Adhikari had escalated, beginning to surface.

The Finance Ministry formed a three-member probe committee on Friday under the coordination of former Supreme Court Justice Purushottam Bhandari. Dr. Surya Thapa and Dr. Chandrakant Poudel are members of the investigation committee. The committee has been directed to submit its report within a month.

According to the provisions of the act related to the country's governor, the governor will be automatically suspended after the formation of the investigation committee.
