Government to Extend Land Administration Services to All Local Levels Within a Month
The government is preparing to make land administration services available through all local governments across Nepal within the next month, eliminating the need for citizens to travel to distant Land Revenue Offices and Survey Offices for land-related administrative services.
Prime Minister Balendra Shah announced the initiative through a statement on Facebook on Monday, stating that the government has prioritized the transfer and delivery of land administration services at the local level.
According to Shah, reducing the distance between the state and citizens is one of the fundamental objectives of the federal democratic republic. He emphasized that government services should be brought closer to citizens rather than requiring people to travel long distances to access essential public services.
The Prime Minister stated that making land administration services accessible through local governments is an integral part of the government's 100-point governance reform agenda. The initiative aims to ensure that citizens can access essential land-related services directly from their respective local levels.
The process of transferring land administration services to local governments has already moved forward in accordance with provisions under the Constitution of Nepal, the Local Government Operation Act, 2017, and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2083.
So far, 33 local governments across the country have successfully started providing these services. Building on this progress, the government has decided to make arrangements for all remaining local governments to begin operating land administration services within the next month. Shah also assured that the federal government would provide all necessary assistance and support to local governments to facilitate the implementation of the initiative.
The initiative is expected to enable local governments to exercise their constitutional and legal authority over land administration more effectively. It is also aimed at making Land Revenue and Survey Offices, which provide essential land-related services, more accessible and convenient for citizens.
The government believes that decentralizing these services will simplify administrative procedures, reduce the burden of travelling to distant government offices, and improve the overall delivery of public services. The move also reflects the government's broader objective of strengthening federalism by gradually easing legal and administrative provisions that have concentrated authority at the central level. By extending land administration services to all local governments, the government aims to translate the principle of 'Singha Durbar in Every Village' into practice, bringing essential administrative services closer to citizens.
