Former Kathmandu CDO Chhabi Rijal Arrested Over Gen-Z Protest Investigation

Former Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, Chhabi Rijal, was arrested on Tuesday morning from his residence in Koteshwor by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.

Rijal, who was serving as the CDO at the Kathmandu District Administration Office during the Gen-Z protests held on September 8 and 9, 2025, was taken into custody following recommendations made by the Karki Commission. The commission had been formed to investigate the incidents surrounding the protests.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Manohar Prasad Bhatta of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Rijal will be handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation.

The arrest comes amid an ongoing probe into the events linked to the Gen-Z demonstrations. Earlier, on March 27, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had also arrested former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak in connection with the same case.

Authorities have stated that further investigation into the matter is underway.
