Finance Minister calls for increasing export-oriented industries; calls for the participation of private sector to bring prosperity

Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada has said that as investment from the government alone was not possible to bring prosperity to the nation, the participation of the private sector was inevitable.

Addressing the Chamber Day 2076 held to mark the 70th anniversary of Nepal Chamber of Commerce here today, he said the government has accordingly introduced private sector-friendly laws in order to take the private sector on board the path towards prosperity. Emphasizing on the need to increase import in order to minimize trade deficit of the country, Finance Minister Khatiwada called for investment in export-oriented industries.

Minister of State for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Moti Lal Dugad said the government was doing its best to promote industrial and professional atmosphere in the country.

Chamber President Rajesh Kaji Shrestha said lack of concrete policy and programme of the government to promote export, scarcity of raw materials, poor infrastructure network, administrative hassles and lack of skills human resources are challenges to minimizing trade deficit of the country.

The chamber brings together 86 institutional associations and 21 sub-national chambers of commerce and industry.
