Employees demand Rs 10,000 salary hike

KATHMANDU, JULY 02:
Eight government employees unions have sought an increase of Rs 10,000 in their current salary in the new budget.
Submitting their 7-point demands to Minister for Finance Shanker Prasad Koirala on Monday, the unions demanded an insurance of a million and an annual dress allowance of Rs 15,000 for them.
They have demanded that their salaries should be increased considering economy of the nation, priorities of the state and comparison with neighbouring countries.
In response, Minister Koirala assured them of his positive nod. However, he said that he won’t entertain any threat of agitation for salary hike.
He informed the unions that the salary hike will be based on recommendations of Salary and Allowance Review Committee formed by the ministry.
The Public Service Act provisions for salary hike in every three years. It has been exactly three years since the hike was decided for the last time.
