The World's No. 1 Luxury Hotel Is in Nepal: Shinta Mani Mustang Puts the Country on the Global Map

Nepal has given the world another reason to look towards its mountains. Shinta Mani Mustang, a luxury hotel in Jomsom, Mustang, has been ranked No. 1 on Robb Report's 2026 list of the 50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth. The recognition places a hotel in one of Nepal's most remote and beautiful regions among the world's leading luxury stays, bringing fresh international attention to Mustang and Nepal's tourism potential.

Located on a hillside above Jomsom, Shinta Mani Mustang sits at an altitude of around 2,800 metres and serves as a gateway to the wider Mustang region. The hotel opened in August 2023 and has 29 suites (Rooms). It was developed through a partnership involving Shinta Mani Hotels, Sherpa Hospitality Group and designer Bill Bensley. The property was created to offer visitors a comfortable and high end way to experience the rugged landscapes, rich culture and peaceful atmosphere of Mustang.

What makes the hotel different is that the luxury experience is closely connected to the place around it. The design uses local materials, traditional textiles and artwork, while the building itself is designed to fit into the mountain landscape. Guests can enjoy views of the Himalayas while also exploring the region through guided walks, village visits, cultural experiences and outdoor activities such as horse riding and archery.

The experience goes beyond simply staying in a luxury room. Shinta Mani Mustang offers an all inclusive programme where guests can enjoy meals, guided activities, wellness treatments and other services as part of their stay. The hotel also works with local food producers and includes local flavours in its dining experience, giving visitors an opportunity to experience Mustang not just through its scenery, but also through its food, people and traditions.

For Nepal, this recognition carries a meaning that goes beyond one hotel. Nepal has long been known around the world for Mount Everest, trekking and adventure tourism. Shinta Mani Mustang shows another side of the country, a Nepal where travellers can enjoy comfort, personalised hospitality and high quality experiences while surrounded by some of the world's most dramatic mountain landscapes. It was a major success for Nepal to be list on Top 1.  

Various Nepal’s tourism sector expert says this recognition will enhance Nepal’s tourism to the world. There are mountains, national park, hunting reserves, hiking, trekking and mountain trails, temples like Muktinath, Manakamana, Lake like Rara, Shey Phoksundo, Tilicho and Phewa, places like Badimalika, Dhorpatn etc. are still the world’s hidden place to be uncovered by world’s tourism. These places are only famous in Nepal not in the world, Nepal’s tourism board is working to boost these places to the world “says Hikmat Singh Ayer” Officiating CEO of Nepal Tourism Board.
