The Election Commission (EC) has removed the names of 76 candidates from the closed lists submitted by political parties under the proportional representation (PR) system for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.

According to EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the decision was taken following a detailed assessment of the submitted candidate lists. He said the review was conducted based on complaints filed against certain candidates, prevailing legal provisions regarding candidate eligibility, decisions previously taken by the Commission, and information provided by the respective political parties.

In a statement, the EC clarified that the removals include one candidate from the Nepali Congress (NC), one from the CPN (UML), and three candidates from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), among others.

The Commission reiterated that the scrutiny process aims to ensure compliance with electoral laws and maintain the integrity of the PR electoral system.
