EC Establishes Joint Election Operation Centre for HoR Polls

The Election Commission (EC) has set up a Joint Election Operation Centre to ensure the smooth conduct of the House of Representatives (HoR) elections and to immediately address any issues that may arise during the polling process.

The Centre has been established at the premises of the Election Commission in Kathmandu. Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari inaugurated the Joint Election Operation Centre on Sunday, underscoring the EC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and orderly elections.

Speaking at the inauguration, Bhandari said the Centre will play a key role in promptly resolving election-related problems reported from constituencies across the country. He explained that if issues cannot be settled at the concerned voting centres or local levels, the Joint Election Operation Centre will intervene and take immediate action to ensure that the election process continues without disruption.

According to the EC, the Centre will be led by the Secretary of the Election Commission, while a Joint Secretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs and representatives from the security agencies will serve as members. This coordinated structure is designed to enhance inter-agency cooperation, particularly in areas related to security management, logistics, and swift decision-making.

The EC stated that the Joint Election Operation Centre will function as a central hub for collecting real-time information, analysing situations, and making prompt decisions to address emerging challenges during the elections. By doing so, the Commission hopes to enhance transparency, efficiency, and public confidence in the electoral process.

The establishment of the Centre is part of the EC’s broader preparations for the HoR elections, as it seeks to ensure that any technical, administrative, or security-related issues are resolved swiftly and effectively, allowing voters to exercise their democratic rights without obstacles.
