Department of Tourism Collects Rs. 66.64 Crores from Everest Expedition Permits

The Department of Tourism (DoT) has been able to generate royalty of NRs. 66.64 crores via issuance of expedition permits for Mt. Everest.

As of May 14, 2023 of the ongoing Spring expedition season, the department has issued 478 expedition permits for Sagarmatha. A total of 47 teams (376 males and 102 female) have attained permits to scale the tallest mountain in the world, 8848.86 m.

In the same manner, a total 156 individual expedition permits have been issued for Mt Lhotse, 8516m, which is the fourth-highest peak in the world.

17 teams including 116 male and 40 female climbers have attained the permits to scale the mountain. DoT has collected NRs. 3.53 crores via issuance of scaling permits for Mt. Lhotse.

Thirdly, will be scaled by eight teams comprising of 79 individuals including 62 male and 17 female climbers. Through, issuance of expedition permits for Ama Dablam, 6814m, a royalty of NRs. 41.39 lakhs has been collected.

For, Annapurna I (8901m), the tenth highest mountain in the world, a total of five teams will attempt the summit, including 38 male and 16 female climbing enthusiasts. The permits for Annapurna has assimilated NRs. 1.04 crores as of May 14, 2023.

As of May 14, 2023, DoT has issued 1,176 expedition permits for 28 different peaks in Nepal. Subsequently, DoT has collected a revenue of NRs. 76.57 crores.
