The 9.6-megawatt Daramkhola Hydropower Project in Baglung district has officially commenced commercial electricity generation, marking a significant addition to the country’s renewable energy capacity.

Developed by Daramkhola Hydro Energy Limited, the project has successfully connected its generated power to the central transmission line, according to project officials.

The dam of the run-of-river project is located in Kandebas, Galkot Municipality-8, while the powerhouse sits approximately 4.5 kilometers downstream at Manewapata. Project Engineer Mithilesh Chaudhary informed that although the installed capacity is 9.6 MW, the project is expected to generate 6.6 MW during the dry season, when river flow decreases.

Speaking about the project’s development, Chairman Nar Bahadur Pun stated that the project required an investment of over Rs 2 billion. He noted that the successful completion and operation of the plant will contribute to local economic activity and strengthen the national power grid.

With the operation of Daramkhola Hydropower, Baglung district adds another important hydropower project to its growing energy portfolio, supporting Nepal’s push toward clean and sustainable energy.
