The long dragged issue of Capital Gain Tax (CGT) in Nepali Capital Market has been finally settled by Ministry of Finance (MoF). MoF had a discussion session with investors on Wednesday regarding this matter and the decision has been reached. The the cost price for CGT calculation will be derived on the basis of the weighted average of prices of shares from 2058 BS to 2076 BS.

The CDS and clearing will be determining the average price of shares from 2058 BS till 2076 BS (Ashad end) based on the highest and lowest price during this period. The amount that comes from this calculation will be used as the base price for CGT calculation.

Similarly, for transactions that have happened from this FY 2076/77, the CGT will be calculated based on the actual price at which the shares have been bought.

Since the calculation will be done by CDS and clearing, the investors won't have to visit broker's office.
