Auditor General Urges Universities to Reclaim Encroached Land

The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has directed various universities, including Tribhuvan University, to take immediate steps to recover encroached land, safeguard their properties, and utilize the assets for income-generating purposes.

The recommendations were included in the OAG’s 63rd annual report. According to the report, around 14.784 million square meters of land owned by TU and its affiliated bodies have been illegally occupied.

Similarly, 300 bigha of land belonging to Tikapur Multiple Campus under Far West University and more than 652 ropani of land owned by Pokhara University have also reportedly been encroached upon.

The OAG has instructed the universities to maintain a centralized record of their properties and coordinate with the concerned authorities to reclaim the occupied land.

Earlier, the TU Land and Immovable Property Investigation Committee-2081 BS, in its report submitted on December 17, 2026, had also recommended that cases related to land encroachment and misuse of university property be forwarded to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority and the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police for further action.
