Narainapur Rural Municipality in Banke district, which witnessed the demise of a 25-year-old person from coronavirus on Sunday, has turned into a hotspot for coronavirus. On Monday alone, 47 new individuals have been infected with the coronavirus reaching the total tally 56 in the village.

Likewise, the number of total infected persons in Banke district reached 81. Prior to this, ward no. 7 and 8 in the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City witnessed 25 and 24 infected persons, respectively.

Narainapur lies some 35 kms away from Nepalgunj across the Rapti river and most of the new cases are India returnee people. Coronavirus focal person at District Health Office, Banke Naresh Shrestha said that they were living under quarantine after arriving from India.

Medical Superintendent of Bheri Hospital Dr Prakash Thapa said that of the 274 swabs collected from Narainapur, tests for the some swabs are still left. “Reports of all swabs have not arrived. I am not aware of all since I am in the field. Discussions are ongoing for the management of infected people,” Dr Thapa said.

As a large number of people were infected at once, discussions are ongoing whether to construct isolation wards in Narainapur or manage them elsewhere, Dr Thapa shared.

Previously infected 25 persons have been kept at Khajura-based Coronavirus Special Isolation Hospital and eight others were sent to Dang for the treatment.
