Nepal Rastra Bank Temporarily Suspends Four Online Services Amid Global Cybersecurity Concerns
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has temporarily suspended four of its online services following increased cybersecurity risks related to PHP software reported worldwide.
According to a notice issued by the central bank on Kartik 9, 2083 the suspension affects the Grievance Hearing Portal (Gunaso Sunuwai Portal), Nepal Clearing and Transaction System (NCTS), Letter of Credit (LC), and FXOL System.
The central bank stated that these services have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to address potential security risks. The systems will remain unavailable until they are restored, and users will be informed about their resumption through the respective email addresses.
During the suspension, users can contact the bank through designated email addresses for matters related to the affected services. Complaints and grievances can be sent to gunaso@nrb.org.np, NCTS related matters to ncts@nrb.org.np, and LC and FXOL related matters to fxmstat@nrb.org.np.
The temporary suspension comes amid growing concerns over cybersecurity threats affecting online systems worldwide. Such risks can potentially affect the security and reliability of digital services, making preventive measures important for financial institutions.
However, NRB has not announced a specific date for restoring the affected services. The notice also does not indicate that the bank's other services have been affected.
NRB website is also down from many days.
