Meteorologists have advised farmers across Nepal to delay harvesting and storing paddy until after Kartik 15 due to the possibility of rainfall caused by Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal. Light to heavy rainfall is expected in different parts of the country from Kartik 11 to 15.
Meteorologist Ujjwal Upadhyay, who teaches at Kathmandu University, has urged farmers to avoid harvesting paddy from Wednesday and take necessary precautions. Agricultural development offices in several districts have also advised farmers to check weather conditions before harvesting their crops.
Nepal's Meteorological Forecasting Division has warned that the cyclone could bring cloudy skies and rainfall across the country. It has urged residents of Kathmandu Valley and Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces to remain cautious until Saturday.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Arnab has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm over the west central Bay of Bengal. According to India's weather authorities, the storm is moving at around 25 kilometres per hour and is expected to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday morning.
Heavy rainfall and strong winds are expected in coastal areas of India, with wind speeds potentially reaching 115 to 125 kilometres per hour. Red alerts have been issued for coastal Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha, urging residents to take necessary safety measures.
